Homework Helper
By Jennifer Lynn
Hello everyone, and welcome to the first article of the new school year. Don't you just love getting up early to learn something? (Yeah, right.) I'm actually pretty excited this year, to be honest. I'm going to take the California High School Proficiency Exam in the spring, so this year I'm studying for it. For those of you who attend public schools, I've been seeing my friends try to cram homework into already-busy schedules lately, so this week I thought I'd share some of my ideas with you. I'm no expert, and everyone is different and has different needs, but these are just some suggestions on how to get everything done.
Let's go through the day and find some spots where there's a chance to study. Ok, you get up in the morning and shower, right? So instead of blow-dying your hair when you're done (which isn't great for it anyhow), why not let it drip-dry, and use the drying time to finish last night's math assignments? You would only have to get up a little bit earlier, unless you do a lot of curling or styling. For a basic style, though, it doesn't matter too much if it air-dries or not, so save electricity and finish some of that homework instead.
Ok, so you've gotten ready, and you eat breakfast. I wouldn't suggest doing anything then, because you might get something on it, or you'd forget to eat. (I'm always doing that.) Instead, skip chatting in the halls and use the few extra minutes to add a paragraph to your report. (Remember, I'm thinking about those people who are desperate.) At lunch, they usually give you more than enough time, and you can usually go to the library afterwards. It cuts out a lot of social time, but if you really need it...
Ok, so you're done with school, but you have sports until six or seven at night. That leaves just enough time to go home, eat dinner, and do only half of a normal day's homework. So what do you start with? Ask most kids, and they tell you to do whatever class is first. That's not a bad idea, but if you have a writing assignment that has to be typed, or a project that will take a while, do that before anything else. If all else fails, you can do a math problem before classes, right? At least the bigger grades are out of the way.
I know that these have been basic suggestions, but you forget the most obvious solutions first most of the time. Anyhow, I hope it helps you out a little. Enjoy the school year!
