Finals: The Bittersweet End -- At my school the last day of school is a Monday, May 21st to be exact. This day is met with a mixture of exhilaration and, of course, bitter despair. You see, school isn’t really over on that Monday, we have finals Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and those three days cause more confusion and pain than three weeks of school.

New York Gay School: Are We Protecting or Damaging? -- New York City is planning to open a gay high school to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for the gay youth. Teenagers of all kinds deal with everyday pressures concerning drugs and alcohol, sex, family problems, fashion, and sports. Why not open a school for kids who have glasses or kids who have braces? Why not open a school for kids who are overweight or for those who are underweight? Is separating “certain” kids the answer?

Disrespect in the Classroom -- Remember when your parents discussed how they walked 10 miles to school and back in three feet of snow? And what about the stories of being slapped with a ruler when they were acting immature? Most teens like us cannot understand how teachers got away with that. In the '90s, that's considered "abuse" - totally forbidden now. The effects of this drastic change in society? Disrespect. Yup, backtalking and rudeness have become so common; it has become our attitude.

Homework Helper -- Hello everyone, and welcome to the first article of the new school year. Don't you just love getting up early to learn something? (Yeah, right.) I'm actually pretty excited this year, to be honest. I'm going to take the California High School Proficiency Exam in the spring, so this year I'm studying for it. For those of you who attend public schools, I've been seeing my friends try to cram homework into already-busy schedules lately, so this week I thought I'd share some of my ideas with you. I'm no expert, and everyone is different and has different needs, but these are just some suggestions on how to get everything done.
