To Flirt or Not to Flirt
By Sara Jamison
Flirt (flurt) v. 1 - To act in a playful or bold way in trying to attract someone and begin a love affair.
That's flirting in the world of Webster. And that's also the definition of a flirt in our world. Woah. Freaky, huh?
A lot of people think that flirting is a form of "false advertising." OK, so maybe it is. They also believe that flirting causes unstable relationships, due to the fact that it's just a love potion to get someone to like you for the moment. Men/Women are attracted by this burst of romantic attraction and fall head over heals in love - with the flirty you, not the real, laid-back person you really are. So once the flirting stops, the relationship dies. Sound familiar? Then that's why you're not out on a date this evening.
As CZ said, 16 years old, "I think a little is OK - I confess to doing it a bit - but most guys can see through it and it's a turn off rather than a turn on."
Good point! Flirting can be noticed by your "flirtee" and can end up making them puke rather than fall in love. Or, if you're lucky, the guy/girl will flirt right back with you. And for the people sitting around watching, they find it just plain disgusting. So people, don't flirt in public, just a word of advice from the majority of the teens in the world.
Online flirting can be just as pathetic. As my older brother said, "Flirting sucks online, it only ends up hurting people in the end." And, in a joking manner, he added, "Do it in person." Funny. Anyways, flirting online can make you run into some real problems. Especially when the person on the other end isn't who you really think it is. Teenage girls may end up flirting with 56-year-old girls for all we know, and that doesn't seem to be too inviting.
So that's the inside scoop on flirting. And as a great closing remark, a girl from Cumbria, England, stated: Besides, having a boyfriend or girlfriend isn't everything. It's far more important, in my opinion, to build friendships based on honesty and genuinuity.
