Valentine's Day Ideas
By Sara Jamison
Valentine's Day is a special day for couples. It's a great day designed for you to show how much you love your boyfriend/girlfriend. But it will only be as special as you make it! Here are some great Valentine ideas for you to try for your significant other. My boyfriend and I are always doing little things for each other, and here are some examples of tricks that work!!! ;)
- Flowers 101 -- Okay, guys, if you're gonna get us flowers, make it memorable! My boyfriend has a habit of doing this the most creative way possible. Either by telling me to check the trunk of his car to see the "new speakers" he installed (uh huh, sure...LOL) or by giving me one different colored rose at a time and telling me how it relates to me, he has definitely made receiving flowers exciting!
- Romantic night for two -- For my birthday, my boyfriend surprised me to a candlelight dinner in his basement. So, for one of our anniversaries, I did the same for him! I lit the fireplace, set up the card table in the living room, covered it with a lacy tablecloth, bought roses for the table (I even took the petals off of one and sprinkled them on the tablecloth -- oooh, romantic! LOL), lit a ton of candles around the room, made his fave food lasagna, started up the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack on the CD player, and slipped into a long black glittery dress that he had been wanting to see me in. The doorbell rang, and boy was he surprised! I even rented "Return to Me" and "Jerry Maguire" for our viewing pleasure!
- Love notes - the millennium way! -- I have had a cell phone for many months now and have text messaging capabilities on it. With AT&T, you get an email address that takes your emails straight to your phone. Of course, my boyfriend took full advantage of this neat opportunity, and, with my hectic schedule, he would email me short "I love you" messages to my phone. They were definitely a surprise for me to find when I got off of work or after meetings. Now, he has a cell phone and it's an everyday event! It's a fun way to let your honey know you're thinking of them throughout the day!
- The simple things sometimes mean the most -- My boyfriend and I both like inspirational quotes. So, for Christmas, I bought a cute ceramic piggy bank painted like a tiger (he works at the zoo with the big cats) and put, on little slips of paper, quotes dealing with love. I named the pig "Larry the Love Swine" and told Jon he could only take a quote out when he was feeling lonely when I wasn't there. I also wrote him a letter telling him how much he means to me, something he can keep and read whenever he pleases.
Over the last couple of months, my boyfriend and I have shown each other how much fun a relationship can be if you put an effort into it. But hey, who says you have to wait for one day a year to show you love your sweety! Keep up the romance year-round!
Happy Valentine's Day! PS--Another place to get great ideas is www.lovingyou.com.
